Vancouver Lift-Off Winners

Here are the winners...

Many thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Vancouver Lift-Off. It was great to see so many filmmakers and film enthusiasts filling the Vancity Theatre, in support of both local and international indie film.

The judge's votes have been counted and added to the audience's feedback.

Huge congratulations to the filmmakers who screened with us, who all did themselves proud. A special well done to the following films.

Best Short - Contractor 014352 (next screening with Lift-Off in Los Angeles)

Dir. Simon Ryninks
Synopsis: Real and imaginary worlds collide when a lonely data entry clerk reaches through his computer screen, in search of a genuine connection.


 

Best Short Doc - Second Tier City (next screening with Lift-Off in Los Angeles)

Dirs. Matthew Moroz, Xia Han
Synopsis: Everyone is familiar with term ‘Made In China’, and everyone knows many of the products throughout their house are from China but we rarely get to see where these products come from or hear from the people involved.


 

Best Feature - Heroes Manufactured (next screening with Lift-Off in Amsterdam)

Synopsis: A documentary about Canadian Independent Comic Artist trying to break into the comic book industry while facing some of Pop Cultures biggest challenges. In the obvious world of Mass Production and celebrity Media craze, we exploit the reality of producing Super Heroes in a market saturated with Artists, Writers, Celebrities, Cosplayer's and everything else the comic-con markets have to offer.

Synopsis: A woman troubled by a dark secret feels alienated from her tribe, and so sets off on her own journey in search for answers. Though she tries to leave something behind, it finds its way back to her. Can she escape this horrible feeling?

Synopsis: A killer comes into a bar... What sounds like a joke isn't funny at all for an ex-police alumni turned vigilante-killer who planned to pick up his girl and then leave town forever.

Synopsis: At a monthly meeting, a support group has been whittled down to just three members. In a last ditch attempt at reformation, one of the three makes an effort to convince the others to kick their nasty and adverse habit - murdering people.
